TRUEX AT WATKINS GLEN: Martin Truex Jr. owns one NASCAR Cup Series win at Watkins Glen International in addition to six top-five finishes, nine top-10s and 35 laps led in 14 career starts. Truex’s win at The Glen came in 2017 and he has finished second in the past two races at the track after battling eventual winner Chase Elliott to the checkered flag on both occasions.
ROAD COURSES THIS YEAR: In four road course races this season, Truex has one top-five finish and two top-10s. After a late spin left him 12th at the Daytona Road Course and a mid-race accident put him 35th at Circuit of the Americas, the Mayetta, New Jersey native has finished third and ninth in the most recent road course races at Sonoma Raceway and Road America.
NEW HAMPSHIRE RECAP: Truex finished 12th in the Cup Series’ last race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on July 18. He started up front and was running second before rain on the track resulted in the No. 19 Camry spinning and making contact with the outside wall. The No. 19 team made multiple pit stops for repairs and Truex gained several spots late in the race to earn a respectable 12th-place finish.

Kyle Busch, Denny Hamlin, and Tony Stewart have all driven JGR entries to victory lane at Watkins Glen.

Can you talk about how close you’ve been to three wins in a row at Watkins Glen?
“I think the last two second place finishes, it was just track position. The 9 (Chase Elliott) ended up in front of us and we couldn’t pass him. That’s a really, really fast place and it can be difficult to pass. His car was better in different spots than mine. From lap times, we were faster both years – I could get to him, but he was fast in the right places where I couldn’t pass him. I will have to hopefully figure out how to get faster in a few key areas. But I love going there, it’s a fast place and it would have been awesome if we could have won three in a row out there.”
