Denny Hamlin Fastest In The Friday Practice At Bristol

Denny Hamlin put up the fastest speed inthe first round of practice at the Colosseum, aka Bristol Motor Speedway.  He ran a total of 19 laps in his Joe Gibbs Racing No.11 FedEx Toyota Camry, and it was on that 19th lap that he put up his fastest effort.  Hamlin turned in a lap of 14.913 seconds which equates to a speed of 128.666 mph.

Second on the speed chart for the first session was Martin Truex, Jr., who ran 22 laps in the Furniture Row Racing Toyota Camry.  Coincidentally, Truex ran his fastest lap on his 19 lap as well, turning a 14.944 second lap time with a speed of 128.399 mph.  Truex’s speed was just 0.031 seconds slower that Hamlin’s time.

Rounding out the top five were Brad Keselowski (128.374 mph in the No. 2 Team Penske Ford), Jimmie Johnson (128.176 mph in the No. 48 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet) and Jamie McMurray (127.767 mph in the No. 1 Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates Chevrolet).

Winner of the past two Sprint Cup races and series points leader Kyle Busch was eighth fastest with a speed of 127.478 mph in the No. 18 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota.
