Chip Ganassi Racing generated valuable insights ahead of the Month of May after turning 451 laps on Thursday at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Open Test. Friday’s session was canceled because of rain conditions.
Defending Indianapolis 500 Winner Marcus Ericsson led the field in the opening session at IMS, registering a fastest lap speed of 224.330 mph. He piloted the No. 8 Honda for the most laps (156) by any driver across the sessions.
Scott Dixon posted the third-quickest lap among the field in the afternoon, while Takuma Sato and Alex Palou both ran among the top-eight quickest laps.
CGR will now turn their attention toward Barber Motorsports Park, where they will compete at the first road course of the season on April 30.

“First day back at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. It’s always a really important test for us, considering the significance of the race for our team. Step one toward our goal of winning the Indianapolis 500 is complete. It was a really good day yesterday (Thursday) and we got a lot in while anticipating the rain on the second day today. Everybody goes to the open test with a pretty extensive list, including us, and we got through a lot of things from a technical and engineering point of view. We worked to get a better understanding of the new aerodynamic components and how they correlate with our behind the scenes work, and feel really good heading into the month of May with what we accomplished.”
