Andretti Autosport and Colton Herta found victory at the GMR Grand Prix at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Today’s win is Herta, Honda and the team’s first win of the 2022 NTT INDYCAR SERIES season. In addition, it is Herta’s first win at IMS in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES. It was both merit and talent that put the No. 26 Gainbridge Honda out front. The strategy plays to stay on reds early through the rain then the switch to wet tires later in the race allowed Herta to sail past the competition. Herta’s teammates were dealt less lucky outcomes. Devlin DeFrancesco couldn’t avoid contact as a car spun in front of him on Lap 21. The Andretti Steinbrenner No. 29 PowerTap Honda crew made repairs quickly in pit lane but the mend kept DeFrancesco out of fighting contention. Despite running in the front of the pack for much of the race, Romain Grosjean and Alexander Rossi fell victim to unpredictable weather as multiple yellows as risky tire choices didn’t play into their fortune.
