“I’m so grateful to the whole Andretti Autosport organization. It wasn’t just the No. 27 guys, there were guys from all my teammate’s cars and Honda employees that worked on the car. It was a thrash but we got it done. I’m appreciative of their work. Obviously, we knew the pace had been good all weekend. I wish I could have got pole, but I’m fine with fifth. We’ll take it. We’ll go back and see where the car is actually at and go from there.”
Thanks to Alexander Rossi, the NTT INDYCAR SERIES qualifying session kept fans on the edge of their seat. After the No. 27 NAPA AUTO PARTS/ AutoNation, Honda was damaged in Practice Two. The Andretti Autosport crew worked down to the wire to prepare the car for Rossi’s qualifying run. He did not disappoint. Rossi took the No. 27 Honda into the Firestone Fast Six, where he qualified fifth overall. Romain Grosjean and Colton Herta were served a cruel fate in the fast 12 when a late red flag ended their last laps, poised to carry them into the next qualifying stage. Rookie Devlin DeFrancesco was hoping to find more after strong practice sessions had him running near the top 10 of the 27 car field. He will start the Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama 20th overall.
