“It was an intense session. We had an issue in Practice 2, the guys did a great job fixing the car for me. We qualified fourth and are starting third after Alex [Palou’s six-spot grid] penalty, so pretty happy with that. We knew once Colton [Herta] was able to transfer on [Firestone Primary] blacks that he pretty much had it locked up. Regardless, the 26 side has done an amazing job all weekend, so he deserved that pole. Third is a good spot to start tomorrow and we’ll see what we can do.”
A field of 27 cars took to the Nashville 2.17-mile street circuit today for INDYCAR’s traditional knock-out style qualifying and with an ever-competitive field, the heat was on.
Alexander Rossi was the sole team driver in Group 1 and stayed steady to advance all the way to the Firestone Fast Six, where he was joined by teammates James Hinchcliffe and Colton Herta. Ryan Hunter-Reay just narrowly missed out on advancing from Segment 1.
The inaugural Music City Grand Prix goes green Sunday at 5:45 p.m. ET with live broadcast beginning on NBC Sports Network at 5:30 p.m. ET.
