“It was a good day for the 28 DHL Honda. The crew did a great job getting the car ready after practice. We had a lot of speed in it. Thankfully it just took that one run. One and done today and we’re in the Fast 9 – really proud of the team. Big turnaround from earlier in the practice session. We have a shot at it and we’ll give it our best in the heat. It’s going to be sliding around, slippery out there tomorrow, but looking forward to it.”
The first day of qualifications for the 105th Running of the Indianapolis 500 Presented by Gainbridge saw 35 cars attempt to make the prestigious field of 33. Positions 10-30 are now locked in based on today’s speeds while Sunday will see both the top-nine qualifiers compete for the pole and the five competitors at the bottom of the speed charts get their last chance to fill the last row (31-33).
Colton Herta and Ryan Hunter-Reay will represent Andretti Autosport in the Fast 9 Shootout on Sunday with a chance to win the pole position for the Indianapolis 500. Broadcast of the Fast 9 starts at 2:30 p.m. ET on NBC.
The full field of 33 cars will hit the track from 5-7 p.m. ET for an evening practice streamed live on Peacock.
