No. 20 Mobil 1 Toyota GR Supra News and Notes
NEMECHEK AT ATLANTA: John Hunter Nemechek has made a pair of NASCAR Xfinity Series starts at Atlanta Motor Speedway – both coming prior to 2022 when the track featured a newly-repaved surface. In those two starts, his best finish was a fourth-place performance in 2018 while driving for Chip Ganassi Racing.
ATLANTA WINNER: In his first start at the 1.54-mile quad-oval, Nemechek won the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race in February 2016. After starting 18th, he found his way to the front with eight laps remaining and went on to claim his second victory in the series.
PHOENIX RECAP: Nemechek finished sixth in last Saturday’s Xfinity Series race at Phoenix Raceway. He started fourth and ran solid early on. A strategy call to pit late in stage one propelled him to the front row for the lap-56 restart to begin stage two. He quickly grabbed the lead and held the top spot until a restart violation on lap 75 forced him to serve a pass-through penalty. The Mooresville, North Carolina native was scored as low as 37th at one point, but he rallied back into contention and restarted second with 24 laps to go. On the restart, a miscue in turns one and two dropped him back to 11th before he clawed his way back up to sixth.
DOUBLE DUTY: Before he climbs in his No. 20 Mobil 1 Toyota GR Supra for the Xfinity Series race, Nemechek will pilot the No. 17 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro for TRICON Garage in Saturday’s Truck Series race.
MOBIL 1: Nemechek’s No. 20 Toyota GR Supra will feature Mobil 1 as the primary sponsor this weekend in Atlanta. Nemechek and Mobil 1 are no strangers to each other as they have partnered for four Truck Series wins over the past two seasons.
JGR AT ATLANTA: Joe Gibbs Racing has recorded five Xfinity Series victories at Atlanta Motor Speedway – all coming in the past nine trips to the track. In 63 combined starts at the track, the organization has picked up 20 top-five finishes, 33 top-10s, five pole awards, and 969 laps led. Christopher Bell, Kyle Busch, and Ty Gibbs have all driven JGR Toyotas to victory lane in Atlanta.
TUNE IN: Coverage of this weekend’s Xfinity Series race at Atlanta Motor Speedway is scheduled for Saturday, March 18, at 5 p.m. ET on FOX Sports 1, PRN Radio, and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.

What do you expect going to Atlanta this weekend?
“It’s going to be wild. The new layout and aero package make it a little bit of a crapshoot, but you still have to have a car with a lot of speed and good handling. Ben (Beshore, crew chief) and all the guys on our 20 team have done a great job of bringing strong cars every week, so I’m confident that our Mobil 1 GR Supra will give us a chance to compete.”
TIL NEXT TIME, I AM STILL WORKING ON MY REDNECK!
