No. 19 Toyota Racing Toyota Supra News and Notes:
· IN THE SPOTLIGHT: Brandon Jones and the No. 19 team return to the mile track in the middle of the desert as the reigning champions from the 2020 Spring race. Phoenix Raceway is the first short track of the season and it’s a precision one-mile oval that presents its challenges. The 19 Toyota team feel confident and they are charging into Phoenix riding a wave of three consecutives top-four finishes to start 2021. This is also the track where the 2021 Xfinity Series Champion will be crowned, so this is a great test for the finale and a great opportunity to build some strong notes.
· LAST YEARS RACE HIGHLIGHTS: Jones made a huge pass on his Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Kyle Busch with 20 laps remaining and pulled away for his second career NASCAR Xfinity Series victory. He was also victorious in his Menards Toyota Supra to claim Toyota’s 500th NASCAR National Series win.
· JGR AT PHOENIX: JGR has 96 total starts at Phoenix Raceway in the NXS, earning 13 wins, 42 top-five finishes, 67 top-10 finishes and 18 pole-starting positions. The team has led 2,917 laps, completed 18,374 of 19,163 attempted laps (95.9%) and earned an average start of 8.2 and an average finish of 9.4. Kyle Busch has earned nine of the team’s 13 wins with Joey Logano earning one win for the team in 2012, Christopher Bell won in 2018 and 2019 and Brandon Jones in 2020.
· RACE INFO: Call 811 Before You Dig 200 at Phoenix Raceway is scheduled for Saturday, March 13, 2021 at 3:30 p.m. MST. Watch and listen live on FS1, SiriusXM Channel 90 and MRN Radio.
From the Cockpit:
Brandon Jones: “Our 19 Toyota team is thrilled to be heading back to Phoenix. We had a pivotal win their last spring when we won against our teammate Kyle Busch. You take that strong win and mix it with us coming off our third consecutive top-four finish in the past three races. This momentum gives us the confidence to build on and focus on winning at Phoenix Raceway. As we look at data and notes from last year, I have already picked up on several areas where I can improve. This is an important weekend for our team to learn as much as possible; with Phoenix being the track that will hold the title to the Xfinity Series Championship later this year. Phoenix Raceway is extremely technical and can trick you into overdriving the track. We are excited that Toyota is back on our Supra and everyone knows how important they are to Joe Gibbs Racing and the sport. It was huge last year to earn Toyota’s 500th victory there. Nothing would make this team prouder than to get them back to victory lane again this weekend.”
TIL NEXT TIME, I AM STILL WORKING ON MY REDNECK!
