TRUEX ON THE DAYTONA ROAD COURSE: Martin Truex Jr. led 10 laps and finished third in the NASCAR Cup Series’ first race on the Daytona Road Course last August. In last week’s Busch Clash on the road course, he started 18th and maneuvered his way to the lead in only 14 laps. A late-race accident while leading relegated Truex to a 21st-place finish.
DAYTONA 500 RECAP: The No. 19 team finished 25th in the DAYTONA 500 after being involved in a multi-car accident on Lap 14. After starting in the rear of the field, Truex had worked his way into the top 20 before the crash that forced the Bass Pro Shops team to spend several laps on pit road for repairs.
ROAD COURSE ROUNDUP: Truex owns four NASCAR Cup Series victories on road courses – three at Sonoma Raceway and one at Watkins Glen International. Overall, he has 11 top-five finishes, 17 top-10s and 264 laps led in 32 starts on road courses. His five-consecutive top-10 finishes on road courses leads all drivers. On road courses last year, Truex finished third at Daytona and seventh at Charlotte.

JGR AT THE DAYTONA ROAD COURSE: Joe Gibbs Racing earned a pair of top five finishes in the NASCAR Cup Series’ lone start on the Daytona Road Course. In addition to Truex’s third-place finish, Denny Hamlin ended the day in the runner-up position. JGR drivers combined to lead 27 of the race’s 65 laps that day. Kyle Busch drove his Camry to victory lane in last week’s Busch Clash after JGR drivers led 24 of 35 laps in the exhibition race.

“I’m looking forward to getting another shot on the road course. We feel like we’ve given away both races there with the speeding penalty last year and our trouble in the Clash last week. But overall, James (Small, crew chief) and the guys have brought amazing cars to both of those races, so if we can avoid mistakes, I think we have a really good shot at it.”
