No. 18 Monster Energy Toyota Supra News and Notes:
HERBST’S LAST TRIP TO TEXAS: Herbst made his first visit in his rookie season to Texas Motor Speedway back in July. That was his first time on the 1.5-mile tri-oval and he started the 200-mile race with no practice or qualifying. On lap four the No. 18 Monster Energy Supra was hit from behind, sending it into the outside wall ending their day early after only nine laps. The team called Herbst to pit road for repairs and he returned to the track several laps down. Unfortunately, Herbst was unable to meet minimum speed and was forced to retire to the garage.
THIS TRIP TO TEXAS: Herbst and the No. 18 Monster Energy team head to Texas Motor Speedway with very few laps under their belt, but with a lot of preparation and an attack strategy. Crew chief Dave Rogers and the 19 Monster Energy team look to bounce back this week with a nothing to lose mentality. They are only looking at leaving Texas with their cowboy hats from victory lane.
JGR AT TEXAS: Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) has a total of 96 starts, 13 wins, 9 poles, 37 top-five finishes, 62 top-10 finishes, an average start of 10.2 and an average finish of 11.3.
RACE INFO: O’Reilly Auto Parts 300 at Texas Motor Speedway (1.5-mile) begins at 4:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, October 24, 2020. The race will be broadcast live on NBCSN, SiriusXM Channel 90 and PRN Radio.
From the Cockpit:
Riley Herbst: “Our Monster Energy Supra was one of the best Supras I have ever had last week at Kansas. I hate it for my guys that we were wrecked after running up front all day. I have learned a lot personally and my team has come a long way since our last trip to Texas Motor Speedway. I’m looking forward to going back to Texas because it’s a track I have very little track time on. We were wrecked early last time and It will be like making my first laps there. I’ve spent time with Dave (Rogers, crew chief) and watched videos of past races, dug into Kyle Busch’s notebook, as well as lots of time in the sim to learn as much as I can to prepare. Our team has really gelled since our last trip and it was just a shame that we were wrecked last time. Our Monster Energy team only has one focus and that is to show what this team is capable of and it’s time to put our Toyota Supra in victory and collect those cowboy hats.”
TIL NEXT TIME, I AM STILL WORKING ON MY REDNECK!
