Riley Herbst Darlington News And Notes

Riley Herbst

No. 18 Monster Energy Toyota Supra News and Notes:

IN THE SPOTLIGHT: Riley Herbst led a very impressive charge to the front last week at Daytona by leading all the Toyotas with a strong fourth place finish. He had to start 37th after a penalty but was able to battle his way back to the front, lead laps and fought his way back to the front showing the resilience of the 18 Monster Energy team. This will be Riley Herbst and crew chief Dave Rogers’ second trip together to “The Track Too Tough to Tame”. The 18 Monster Energy team struggled on their first visit, but have reached into their bag of tools and are focused on making this trip more eventful by running up front at the Sport Clips Haircuts VFW 200. The race is a classic on Labor Day Weekend and the egg-shaped oval will provide challenges, excitement and fun for the fans for the much anticipated 147-lap race.

JGR AT DARLINGTON RACEWAY: Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) has 55 total starts at Darlington Raceway in NXS competition earning 10 wins, 30 top-five finishes, 41 top-10 finishes and nine pole starting positions. The team has led 1,159 laps, completed 8,589 of 9,070 attempted laps (94.7%) and earned an average start of 12.6 and an average finish of 10.7.

RACE INFO: Sport Clips Haircuts VFW 200 at Darlington Raceway (1.366-mile) begins at 12:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, September 5, 2020. The race will be broadcast live on NBC, SiriusXM Channel 90 and MRN Radio.

From the Cockpit:

Riley Herbst: ““Our Monster Energy team is on a roll and coming off a huge fourth place finish at Daytona. We have a lot of momentum finishing in the top-10 five out of our last six races. I am excited about returning to Darlington for Labor Day. This is my second trip to the historic track. Our first visit I was initiated with my first “Darlington Stripe” late in the race. Dave Rogers has been mentoring me by going through our notes and drawing from his experiences. I have also been preparing by running several laps on the TRD simulator. The track can be intimidating, but also fun. All four corners are different and you drive right up by the fence. It’s as fun as racing gets. A win on this unique oval for Monster Energy would be one of the most rewarding. We need to stay focused and not make any mistakes.”

TIL NEXT TIME, I AM STILL WORKING ON MY REDNECK!
