Taylor Gray Attacks Utah Motorsports Campus

Taylor Gray, No. 17 Ford Performance Fusion

Taylor Gray will make his first start in the ARCA Menards Series West and his first start on a road course on Saturday at Utah Motorsports Campus, near Salt Lake City. Gray was scheduled to race at Sonoma (Calif.) Raceway’s ARCA West event before it was canceled due to Covid-19. He opted to race in Utah instead making his road course debut in the two 30-lap doubleheader races.

The 15-year-old rookie has watched a lot of film and spent a lot of time on the simulator to prepare for the challenges a road course brings. He also spent two days practicing on the road course at Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway with a Ford instructor helping hone his road racing techniques.
Gray’s DGR-Crosley team is bringing the same chassis (but with a Ford body) which Ty Gibbs raced last year at Watkins Glen. Gibbs started third and finished fourth in this car.

The doubleheader will air live at 6 p.m. ET on Trackpass on NBC Gold. The race will be two 30-lap races on the 2.2-mile East road course.

Gray on Utah: “I’m really excited for my first road course race in Utah on Saturday. I have always enjoyed watching road course races and I know that we will have a fast DGR-Crosley Ford Performance Fusion. I want to thank Ford for helping me develop as a student of road racing and I look forward to a good run out west. I spent some time at the shop this week sitting in the car and going over strategy with Blake (Bainbridge, crew chief). I’m glad we have some testing time on Friday, so I can get the feel of the car and the track before it’s time to qualify and race Saturday.”

TIL NEXT TIME, I AM STILL WORKING ON MY REDNECK!
