Taylor Gray Makes His Toledo Speedway Debut

Taylor Gray, No. 17 Ford Performance Fusion

Taylor Gray will make his first start in the ARCA Menards Racing Series East on Saturday at Toledo (Ohio) Speedway in the No. 17 Ford Performance Fusion. Gray turned 15-years-old on March 25, which allows him to compete in the remaining ARCA East races, as well as the Sioux Chief Showdown races and select ARCA West events.

Before he turned 15, the Artesia, New Mexico native found success in the CARS Late Model Stock Tour. He won in only his second race last year at Hickory (N.C.) Motor Speedway and followed that up with another victory at Hickory in the Fall Brawl – one of the country’s most prestigious late model events. He dominated, leading all 200 laps of the race. He kicked of 2020 by winning another CARS Tour race at Southern National Motorsports Park in March.

Gray’s DGR-Crosley team is bringing a different Ford Fusion to Toledo than they raced at New Smyrna (Fla.) Speedway in the series opener since that car was totaled in a late-race accident. The team tested with this car at New Smyrna, but has not raced it yet this season.

The Herr’s Potato Chips 200 will air live at 6 p.m. ET on Trackpass on NBC Gold. The race will be 200 laps (100 miles) and is to be run in three segments. The race will have two breaks, the first at or near the conclusion of lap 75 and the second at or near the conclusion of lap 150.

Gray on Toledo: “This will be my first start in the ARCA East Series and my first start at Toledo. Just from watching film there it seems like a pretty fast track. I’m looking forward to trying to get a good finish. I’ve run a couple CARS Tour late model races this season to keep my skills sharp, so that’s been fun, but I didn’t think I’d ever turn 15 so I could move up and start running ARCA races. I’m glad we will have practice and qualifying, so that will give me time to get a feel for the car and the track before it’s time to race.”
