Bristol Recap: Denny Hamlin finished 17th in Sunday’s Food City Presents Supermarket Heroes 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway in the #11 FedEx Express Toyota Camry. Starting the race from the 10th position, Hamlin was happy with the handling of the #11 FedEx Express Camry early in the race as he maintained his position in the top 10. With a tight-handling Camry and battling for position around the Tennessee short track, Hamlin had slight contact with several competitors late in stage one, but sustained only minor damage. At the end of stage one, Hamlin was scored in the eighth position. The team made a routine stop before starting stage two of the 500-lap race. Running in the top five for most of stage two, Hamlin was a little tight throughout the stage, but ultimately fought his way to second at the end of stage two. For the final stage, Hamlin was again a little too tight on the short runs, but was able to take the lead for the first time on lap 256. Continuing to battle in the top positions, Hamlin was leading the race on lap 488 when he got out of the preferred grove and unfortunately, made contact with a competitor. With damage to the #11 FedEx Express Camry, Hamlin was forced to pit road to make repairs and finished the race on the lead lap in the 17th position. Hamlin led the race three times for 131 laps.

Atlanta Preview: The NASCAR Cup Series now heads to Atlanta Motor Speedway for the Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500. A track where Hamlin has seen success in the past, he visited victory lane at the 1.5-mile Hampton, GA track in 2012 after leading 105 of 327 laps. In addition to his win, Hamlin has four top-five finishes and seven top-10 finishes with and average start of 11.8 and an average finish of 17.9. Hamlin and the #11 FedEx #SupportSmall team will be looking for their third win of the 2020 season and Hamlin’s second win at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

Hamlin Conversation – Atlanta:

Looking ahead to Atlanta this weekend, what will you do differently to position yourself for a win?

“We just need to continue what we’ve done all season. We had a great car in Bristol and were in a good position towards the end with the lead, just made an error late in the race pushing for all I had trying to keep the lead for the win. We’re fast, we’re up front every week. We’ll keep digging and hopefully end up in Victory Lane this weekend at Atlanta.”

TIL NEXT TIME, I AM STILL WORKING ON MY REDNECK!
