The #88 Capstone Turbine Honda team finished the Grand Prix of Portland weekend in fourth position after securing the team’s second pole position of the season and leading a career high of 37 laps during the race. Colton Herta’s impressive weekend performance at Portland International Raceway ended with the rookie’s second highest finish this season.
“Overall this was a very successful weekend for the #88 Capstone Turbine Honda team,” said team president, Brian Barnhart. “Colton did an awesome job all weekend long. He won his second pole position of the season on the final lap of the Firestone Fast Six. Really proud and happy for him and the team. The guys also did a great job with quick pit stops and by putting together a great car for Colton. Unfortunately, we had to pit a couple of laps sooner than we were hoping to because of a vibration in the tires from an early lock up. That put us at the back of the top group of guys. We were in position for a very strong finish, a podium for sure and hopefully in contention for the win. But, we are very happy with a fourth-place finish and hope we can do even better at Laguna Seca!”
Colton led two of the three practice sessions during the weekend and was quickest overall. This was the Valenica, California, native’s third weekend of being the quickest in combined practice times. He previously led the field in practice at the INDYCAR Grand Prix and at Mid-Ohio.
“The Grand Prix of Portland was an up-and-down day for the #88 Capstone Turbine Honda team,” said Colton Herta. “I had a blast leading 37 laps of the race today, and our pace was really quick. The car was great, and our strategy was there, but our pace on the red tires during the first stint of the race just wasn’t there. I really feel we could have won the race, but overall I’m happy with fourth as it’s our second-best finish of the year. Looking forward to racing a Laguna Seca in a couple of weeks!”
The 2019 NTT IndyCar Series season has a two-weekend hiatus before the season finale at Laguna Seca on September 22, 2019.
