The No. 10 Konica Minolta Cadillac DPi-V.R will start Saturday’s Bubba Burger Sports Car Grand Prix from the inside of the fourth row after IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship qualifying Friday on the Grand Prix of Long Beach (Calif.) Street Circuit.

Jordan Taylor, sharing the cockpit this weekend with full-time co-driver Renger van der Zande, clocked a fast lap of 1 minute, 12.312 seconds at 97.975 mph around the 1.97-mile, 11-turn temporary street circuit. It was good for seventh among the 19 car-and-driver combinations that will take the green flag for Saturday’s one-hour, 40-minute sprint race.

“We had issues in the first practice session,” said Taylor, who won this event three consecutive years, co-driving with his older brother Ricky Taylor to victories in 2015, 2016 and 2017 before last year’s third-place finish with van der Zande from the sixth starting position that gave the team five consecutive Long Beach podium finishes. “We have been a little off pace today. We did some big changes, which we could feel in the car, but it wasn’t in the right direction and didn’t make us any faster. We can take a couple more swings for the race. We will look at our notes from the past years. Also, the guys will work some magic on the strategy to get us closer to the front.”

Taylor took to the track for practice early this morning last than four days after undergoing an emergency appendectomy late Monday night while on a family vacation in Honolulu. He was cleared to drive and said he felt close to 100 percent once he was strapped into the No. 10 Konica Minolta Cadillac DPi-V.R.

“I was a little nervous coming here, to see how I would feel in the car,” he said. “After the first session, I felt good in the car. I feel the most normal I have all week. I would feel better if we were a little faster.”
