From the Driver’s Seat:

Matt DiBenedetto: “Texas is obviously a big race weekend for our team with it being Bob and Sharon Leavine’s home state.  They always have a lot of guests on hand for these Texas race weekends, and we always want to perform well and have a good day for everyone there supporting us.  Looking ahead to this weekend, the challenges of Texas are going to be the unknowns of going there with the new rules package.  The track is typically fast and has a lot of grip, and especially with all the added downforce this year, we’ll have a ton of more grip than before for this weekend.  We’ll also be wide open and in the gas there a lot this weekend I think with this package.  The challenges for Texas will be qualifying and trying to figure out the right strategy there since this year those sessions are all about finding the right draft and being able to position yourself just right to get the best times.  Track position will be so important at Texas, like it’s been for so many of these weekends already this season due to how this package handles in ‘dirty air’ during race conditions.”

From the Pit Box:

Mike Wheeler: “Texas will most likely be the hardest track we’ve been to this season to make passes on with the new package.  The new pavement makes the track have a lot of grip, but generally, the track there only has one real racing groove.  Equally, the heavy banking in Turn 3 and Turn 4 should allow drivers to be wide open on the throttle there, but everyone will be having to lift for the flatter Turn 1 and 2 corners, so passing areas on-track will be limited. Generally, we’ll make sure we can get our Procore Camry handling the best we can in Turns 1 and 2 while still being wide open in Turns 3 and 4. A lot of pit strategy will also come into play this weekend in order to keep or gain track position over the course of the day.”
