Andretti Rallycross Continues Its Domination At COTA

Americas Rallycross (ARX) made its debut on American soil this weekend, as the exciting new series raced at the prestigious Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas. Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross continued their dominance in the sport – grabbing their second win in as many races and extending the points lead.

After Tanner Foust won the series opener at Silverstone in May, teammate Scott Speed was hungry for his debut ARX win as the team headed deep into the heart of Texas. Speed got off to a fast start, winning his first three qualifying heats – his only blemish when he made contact with Block in Q4 and finished fifth. Foust was right behind his teammate throughout qualifying, finishing second in the first three heats and then taking advantage to win the final heat. The pair of drivers remained neck and neck in the semifinals, each winning their respective race.

The final in COTA started with Speed on the pole and Foust right beside him on the front row. The American teammates elected for different strategies early, as Foust taking the Joker on the first lap – hoping the cars behind him would follow. Unfortunately, only one car took the bait and Foust found himself caught in traffic as Speed was racing away with a clean track in front of him. Speed took advantage but couldn’t shake ARX newcomer Ken Block, who was on his bumper trying to make the pass for the lead. That pass never came and Speed led from start to finish – getting his debut win in the new series. Foust made his way back through the field but ultimately finished third, his second podium finish.
