“I love racing at the Superspeedways. It’s fun to be bunched up the whole time and to be able to really use the air, and draft, and try to get runs. It’s so intense. It’s like high-intensity freeway driving. I’m really looking forward to the race on Saturday.”

Has it sunk in yet that you are a NASCAR Camping World Truck Series winner? What does this feat mean to you, especially given the challenges you’ve faced this season?
“The win has finally sunk in, although it still feels like a dream. I know the win means so much to everyone on our team given the adversity we had to overcome. This was the first win not only for me, but every single person on my team. It feels like we have finally gotten past that barrier. I know after the win got away from us at Kansas, earlier this year, it was on everyone’s mind, but now we can all breathe easy, relax, and just focus on the remainder of the season.”
Talladega is considered a wild card race, but its also the last playoff race before the Round of 6. Do you race Talladega any differently knowing that you are virtually locked-in to the next round?
“Being locked into the Round of 6 is certainly a blessing going into Talladega. It just takes all that unnecessary pressure off me, and the whole team. We have nothing to lose at this race, and essentially everything to gain, in the sense of playoff points and a win. So, I will approach the race with a different mindset, but not necessarily race it any different.”

  • Playoff Update… Following a seventh-place finish at Las Vegas Motor Speedway last month, Crafton is third in the 2017 Playoff standings. The top-6 drivers following Saturday’s94-lap event at Talladega Superspeedway, will transfer to the Round of 6.

How mentally draining, as a driver, is a restrictor plate race?
“The mental aspect is just unbelievable. You try to play out every scenario – trying to put yourself in the right position, which we do every week, but Talladega, and Daytona are just so much worse.”

You are the defending race winner at Talladega. What did it mean for you to get your first NASCAR win at your home track?
“It was a huge win for us last year at Talladega. First truck win, and at my home track, with a lot of friends and family there, making it extra special.”
What are the keys to getting around Talladega Superspeedway, and do you think you can repeat this year?
“The most important part of racing at Talladega is staying out of trouble, and having a truck that can suck up and maneuver good. We can definitely repeat this year. I feel good about the truck Jeff (Hensley, crew chief), and the guys have put together. So, hopefully we will unload good, and be there at the end.”
