Garrett Smithley rallied from deep in the field to finish 23rd in Friday night’s Food City 300 Xfinity Series race at Bristol Motor Speedway.
Racing at the tough half-mile for only the second time, Smithley started the 300 in 38th position. He gained steadily during the long evening, avoiding several accidents to come home 23rd.
“It was a long night, and there was a lot going on on the track,” Smithley said. “You had to be alert every second with cars swapping lanes and accidents popping up. We got a pretty good finish out of it.”
Smithley stayed 17th in Xfinity points.
Austin Dillon won the race, and Elliott Sadler kept the point lead.
Road America will host the next Xfinity race Aug. 27.
TIL NEXT TIME, I AM STILL WORKING ON MY REDNECK!
