Chastain ran with the lead pack in the Dream Water Chevrolet much of the day and, in fact, led a lap under green before the halfway point.
The J.D. Motorsports driver finished 17th after short-pitting pushed him a lap down, but he ran much better than the finish might indicate.
“The 4 car had a great day,” said team owner Johnny Davis. “It was a great day all around for our team at Charlotte.”
Chastain called his run “one of the best we’ve had this season. We had a little better finish (16th) earlier in the year at Las Vegas, but today’s car was a much stronger ride. We just got caught on the pit cycle there, and that kept us out of the top group.”
The finish boosted Chastain to 14th in Xfinity driver points as teams point toward the Xfinity Series’ first Chase playoffs.
The Xfinity Series moves on to Pocono Raceway for a June 4 race.
TIL NEXT TIME, I AM STILL WORKING ON MY REDNECK!
