JD Motorsports with Gary Keller press release:
Prior to Friday night’s O’Reilly Auto Parts 300 XFINITY Series race, Garrett Smithley’s only experience at Texas Motor Speedway had been as a driver for the Richard Petty Driving Experience fan program.
On Friday, Smithley went a lot faster – and he ran a lot longer.
Smithley finished a solid 23rd in his TMS debut, driving the 3rd Gen Automotive Chevrolet for JD Motorsports with Gary Keller No.0 Chevy Camaro.
“It was a pretty good night for us,” Smithley said. “The car was especially good late in the race. It gives us some good feedback for racing here again and for other 1.5-mile tracks. Plus, we picked up some points.”
Smithley moved into the top 20 in driver points, gaining two spots.
Sprint Cup driver Kyle Busch won the race, his 80th Xfinity victory. Daniel Suarez remained in the point lead.
The series moves on to Bristol, Tenn. April 16 for the first short-track race of the year.
TIL NEXT TIME, I AM STILL WORKING ON MY REDNENCK!
