Rain threatened the Martinsville Speedway yet again but the NASCAR Sprint Cup drivers were able to get in a full morning of practice in preparation for tomorrow’s STP 500.
After qualifying on the front row on Friday afternoon it was Kasey Kahne, driving the Hendrick Motorsports No. 5 Chevy that posted the fastest lap on Saturday morning with a speed of 96.073 mph which equates to a lap time of 19.710 seconds.
Right behind him was the Richard Childress Racing No. 31 Chevy of Ryan Newman laying down a speed 95.849 mph.
Rounding out the top 10 was Martin Truex Jr., Brian Vickers, Paul Menard, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Casey Mears, Matt Kenseth, Denny Hamlin, and Clint Bowyer.
Midway through this practice session Jimmie Johnson made slight contact with the wall and sustained cosmetic damage to the right rear of his Hendrick Motorsports Lowe’s Chevrolet.
Additionally, the caution flag was waved briefly once at the beginning of the 55-minute session for rain.
