Joe Gibbs Racing driver Erik Jones zipped his way to the top of the speed charts in Friday’s morning NASCAR Xfinity Series practice at the Phoenix International Raceway. This was the first of three practice sessions scheduled for the NXS today.
Erik’s fastest lap on the 1-mile track was 134.128 mph with a time of 26.840. Richard Childress Racing driver #3 Ty Dillon was second quickest with a speed of 133.924 and a lap time of 26.881.
Rounding out the top ten during this morning’s first practice session was Ryan Sieg, Brad Keselowski, Blake Koch, Darrell Wallace, Jr., Justin Allgaier, Brennan Poole, Austin Dillon, and Brandon Jones.
Xfinity Series point’s leader Daniel Suarez was 12th fastest on the speed charts this morning. This morning’s practice session was extended 5 minutes due to a crash by Brennan Poole just past the halfway mark in the first session. Poole spun at the exit of turn 4 and crashed into sand barrels that help protect the pit wall areas.
There were 34 drivers that participated in the first practice session this morning. There will be two more practice sessions this afternoon for the teams to fine tune a tweak on their cars before Saturday.
