It might be the actual beginning of winter in just a few days, however, there is a major sprint car race on the schedule that will heat you up.
It is the second installment of The Winter Heat Sprint Car Showdown at Cocopah Speedway, which is located in the southern suburbs of Yuma, AZ. This extremely fast 3/8 mile Diamond in The Desert is where the 410 winged sprint cars will congregating, beginning on New Year’s Day for five nights of racing over a nine day period.
Earlier this year, in January, Greg Burgess and Tony Stewart put together this fantastic five nights of racing, which hosted about 36 of the top sprint car racers in the nation. Names like Steve Kinser, Paul McMahan, Danny Lasoski, Wayne Johnson, Johnny “Hollywood” Herrara, The Ragin Cajun Jason Johnson, as well as Aaron Reutzel showed off their talents. Likewise, NASCAR stars Kyle Larson and Kasey Kahne were there slinging up some mud, as were quite a few other drivers racing for the big dough!
In less that two weeks, January 1st to be exact, Cocopah Speedway will open up their gates for the second annual Winter Heat Sprint Car Showdown. For five nights the racing facility will be showcasing some of the biggest names and fastest sprint car drivers in the entire sprint car world! If you have nine days of vacation or sick time, you need to hop a plane, a train, or car and head to Yuma, AZ for some of the finest sprint car racing outside of the Knoxville Nationals.
If you need a teaser or a reason, here is a tentative list of drivers who have either sent in a pre-registration form or who have committed verbally/through social media to competing during the 2016 Winter Heat Sprint Car Showdown.
Sam Hafertepe Jr.
Jim Moughan Jr.
Henry Van Dam
This tentative list of drivers will be increasing as the days wind down closer to New Year’s Day, when the engines fire up in eight part harmony and the mud flies!
I will see you at the track!
TIL NEXT TIME, I AM STILL WORKING ON MY REDNECK!
