Last year it was Chase Elliott that amazed us after the Texas race, this year it is Erik Jones!
As I have noted on a couple of my articles there is another Young Gun to keep your eyes on in the Camping World Truck Series, 18 year old Erik Jones!
For the second straight year, the spring NASCAR XFINITY Series race at Texas Motor Speedway has seen a first-time winner in the series take the checkered flag in the Lone Star State as Jones bested a field that included Sprint Cup stars such as Brad Keselowski, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Denny Hamlin en route to his first win in the XFINITY Series. Jones led a race high 79 laps of the scheduled 200 laps.
Jones’ XFINITY win at 18 years 10 months and 11 days, makes him the fourth youngest winner in series history behind Joey Logano, Chase Elliott (the defending series champion), and Casey Atwood. Elliott scored his first XFINITY Series win in this very race last year, and then made it two in a row with a win at Darlington Raceway.
Erik’s good fortune comes at the expense of the injured Kyle Busch. He is getting the opportunity to race a few XFINITY races as part of core of substitute drivers that are filling in for the injured Kyle Busch at Joe Gibbs Racing.
Just a note to all who are not familiar with the name of Erik Jones, take some time to do a little research and familiarize yourself with this young man. You will be hearing a lot more from this teenager in the coming weeks and months!
