Ty Dillon passed Kyle Busch for the lead on a restart with 24 laps to go, led the rest of the way, and won Saturday’s Lilly Diabetes 250 NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
The victory was the first of the 22-year-old grandson of the owner of Richard Childress Racing. The 24 laps he led were the only laps he led during the 100-lap race.
In addition to getting the victory, Dillon collected a $100,000 bonus by way of the Dash 4 Cash program.
Kyle Busch was unable to catch up with the Richard Childress Racing rookie and came up short by .833 of a second, finishing in second place after leading for a total of 10 laps.
Matt Kenseth, Kevin Harvick, and Joey Logano rounded out the top-five finishers.
