Martin Truex Jr. has agreed to drive the #78 Furniture Row Chevrolet in 2014.
Sources say the parties, Martin Truex, Jr. and Barney Vissar the owner of FRR, came to terms on Wednesday night. A formal announcement is expected next Tuesday. Truex is in his eighth year as a full-time Sprint Cup driver. As we all know, Truex has spent the past four seasons driving the #56 NAPA Toyota for Michael Waltrip Racing.
However, the whole fiasco stemming from Michael Waltrip Racing’s manipulation of the outcome of the Sept. 7 race at Richmond International Raceway, and subsequent sanctions from NASCAR resulted in Truex’s disqualification from the Chase for the Sprint Cup has turned into a bucket of worms for all involved. Additionally, a financial catastrophe for MWR resulted in NAPA’s decision to part ways with the organization at the end of the season.
Could this be the beginnings of the financial collapse of Michael Waltrip Racing?
Similarly, what will be the long-term results for Martin Truex, Jr. and his racing career? Could this be a resurrection and a new start for Truex, as was the case for Kurt Busch? I guess time will be the telling factor!
TIL NEXT TIME, I AM STILL WORKING ON MY REDNECK!
