Today almost all of the NASCAR haulers were at the Bass Pro Sports store in Leeds, Alabama, for a hauler parade, as well as a static display. This is all a preview of what is in store for the race fan this weekend at Talladega. There was a large gathering of race fans there as well, including yours truly. When all the smoke, fun, and games culminated, Tony Stewart and Stewart-Haas Racing, as well as Johnny Morris, announced that Bass Pro Sports would be the new primary sponsor for the SHR #14 Chevy in 2013!
“I want to introduce you to Tony Stewart, new driver of the Bass Pro Shops Chevy,” Bass Pro founder Johnny Morris said late Thursday afternoon. And with that, a day before complete details are revealed at Talladega, the reigning and three-time NASCAR Sprint Cup champion had a new primary sponsor for 2013.
Stewart-Haas racing was in the market for a sponsor after Office Depot announced earlier this year it was leaving the sport. Likewise, Bass Pro was in the final year of a sponsorship agreement with Earnhardt-Ganassi Racing’s Jamie McMurray.
Additionally, Mobil One is staying as the second primary sponsor, Stewart indicated. Morris said Bass Pro also plans to continue as a sponsor for brothers Austin and Ty Dillon in the NASCAR Nationwide and Camping World Truck Series, respectively, and that he appreciates the bond with Joplin native McMurray over the last three seasons.
So race fans, still another piece of the silly season, drivers and sponsors alike, have fallen into place.
TIL NEXT TIME, I AM STILL WORKING ON MY REDNECK!
