For anyone who has entered through the gates at the hallowed grounds at 16th St. and Gerogetown Road in Speedway, Indiana, you CAN feel the eeriness of the legends that have inhabited this facility over the past 100 years. The Indianapolis Motor Speedway has more legends and stories than any other sports complex on the Earth!
Sunday Jimmie Johnson won his fourth Brickyard 400 joining his team-mate, Jeff Gordon as the only four-time NASCAR Brickyard 400 winners. Granted there has been only nineteen races held at the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway, but the duo of Johnson and Gordon have won a combined eight races for Hendrick Motor Sports. That is nearly one half of all the races that have been staged at this facility!
Johnson was the dominate car, leading 99 out of the 160 laps. On the last restart, Jimmie Johnson broke away from the field with 20 laps to go, and went on to win the Brickyard 400 Sprint Cup race maintaining a six second lead over the second place Kyle Busch, at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
With just six races to go in “the regular season”, the time is running out for some teams to try to secure a spot in The Chase. For teams that are just barely outside the top ten, it is time “to let the big dog eat”!
