Clint Boywer silenced his nay-sayers Sunday with a win in the Toyota/Save Mart 350, at Sonoma Raceway.  It was his first victory this season, his first with Michael Waltrip Racing, and his sixth career win in the Sprint Cup Series.

Bowyer led a race-best 71 laps. It was his first-ever road-course victory and it moved him from ninth to seventh in points.

“It’s huge towards the Chase and everything else,” Bowyer said of the win. “This is big for our confidence level — this team. It’s a young organization that’s going to be in this sport a long time and I’m proud to be a part of it.”

For those of us who thought that Bowyer was taking a giant step backwards when he signed with MWR, this might be the time to rethink that analysis!  So far in the first 16 races, Bowyer has logged 9 top ten finishes, and sits firmly in 6th place in the Sprint cup standings.
