Cocopah Speedway, in Yuma, AZ, opened up its second season of racing Saturday night. Last year the race track open up for a somewhat abbreviated race schedule. However, in the second season of racing, Cocopah Speedway has published an industrious schedule of racing that runs from September 17, 2011 through December 2012! This will put the race track in sync with most all of the other racing facilities in the area.
Last Saturday night ushered in the new race season for the race track. There were several milestones throughout the evening of racing.
IMCA modified driver, Lance Mari from Imperial, CA, won his very first main event at the Cocopah Speedway. Mari started on the outside of the front row, driving his modified like he had stolen it! He won the race going away, leading every lap. However it was noted, that the defending modified track champion, Ken Rosevear, was noticeably absent Saturday night. Rosevear is awaiting the arrival of a new modified for this season’s racing.
Local Yuma driver, Adolfo Noriega, the defending Street Stock Champion, won the opening event for his division, a personal milestone. Noriega led the main event, wire-to-wire, without a serious threat from any of the participants.
Additionally, there was teenager Jordon White, who not only finished his very first career Factory Stock feature, but he won it all! Finishing behind White in second place was Brawley’s Amy Teague, followed by Yuma’s Justin Jones in third.
Now that the 2010 Cocopah Speedway race season is in the books, the 2011 race season appears to be more industrious, more competitive, more race cars, and therefore, going to be very exciting to watch!
See you at the race track!
TIL NEXT TIME, I AM STILL WORKING ON MY REDNECK!
