Hey Gang, I am currently taking a summer vacation that is encompassing a tour of the Pacific Northwest.
As usual I am exploring new ways to be “working on my redneck”. Remember now that I have been going to racing for over 50 years. I have been fortunate enough to go to Indy car races at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, California Speedway, Marchbanks Speedway in Hanford, CA, and Phoenix International Raceway. I have been to NASCAR at Daytona, Atlanta, Phoenix, California Speedway, Infineon Raceway, and Miami-Homestead, just to mention a few. I have been to the NHRA at Pomona, Denver, Chicago, and Infineon, too. So my friends, I feel confident in saying that I am a “well rounded redneck”!
Nevertheless, last week in Gold Beach, Oregon I witnessed some thoroughly exciting racing. It was “Outlaw Go Kart” racing on a small indoor dirt track at the Curry County Fairgrounds. There were several classes that raced. But the class that watered my eyes was the 500cc class!
The 500 cc class reminded me of the World of Outlaw sprint car races. When these guys would get back into the gas, they were getting some much traction, that they were popping wheelies. As the track dried out they would only carry the left front tire the full length of the straight away! These karts had instant acceleration, similar their “big brothers”, the 410 sprint cars!
Check out this short video that I filmed during one of the heat races! They are screamers!
TIL NEXT TIME, I AM STILL WORKING ON MY REDNECK!
