(WOMR at the Talladega Superspeedway)

It is the day after Thanksgiving, the racing season is over, and it is time for WOMR to offer up a big serving of thanks!

First I would like to thank Jamie McMurray for putting on two really exciting races this season when he won the Daytona 500 and the Brickyard 400. For those who don’t remember, at the end of the 2009 season Jamie Mac was without a ride for the 2011 season when Roush-Fenway Racing released him for his contract. His old boss, Chip Gannasi, offered him a ride in the Earnhardt-Gannasi Racing Bass Pro Sports #1 Chevy, and as they say, the rest was history. Thank you, Jamie!

Next I would like to thank “Blazingly Bad” Brad Keselowski for putting on a great show throughout the Nationwide Series races this season. Keselowski was also noted for his slightly aggressive driving style that landed him upside down and into the Atlanta crash wall, and sitting in a crumpled pile so sheet metal at Gateway International Raceway earlier in the season. In addition to the exciting racing he exhibited, “Bad Brad” K. won the Nationwide Series championship for Penske Racing, its first NASCAR championship ever! Thank you Brad!

Another tip of the hat goes to NASCAR for giving those famous/infamous words out a press conference, “have at it boys”! Those four words have produced some of the most exciting racing for NASCAR in recent memory! Allowing the drivers to police themselves has allowed the racing to be “racier”, more exciting, allowing the drivers to exhibit more of their emotions, and consequently some of the closest finishes ever, witness both Talladega races, and the Daytona 500, just to mention a few. Thank you NASCAR!

When Boris Said, and the very underfunded RAB race team “put a whoopin” on the entire Nationwide Series race teams at Montreal, it was a huge breath of fresh air! Boris Said, over the years, has taken it upon himself to teach and help some of the biggest names of NASCAR become better road racers. Way to go Boris!

Who said? Boris Said!!

Some of the “young guns” have come of age this year. The 20 year old phenom, Joey Logano, got a few lessons bestowed on him over the past two seasons. However this season, after getting punted on more than one occasion by Kevin Harvick, and putting on one heck of a car control, smoking tires, sideways slide at Pocono, he finally showed some backbone and confronted Harvick after the race. I think the comment was something about his lack of control and that his wife wears the firesuit in the family!

Way to go “Sliced Bread”!

Another tip of the hat goes out to Todd Bodine and the whole Germain Racing organization. That race team competed in, and ultimately won the Camping World Truck Series championship with little to no corporate sponsorship. Thank you Germain Racing!

Lastly, and most importantly, I would like to thank my wife for kinda understanding and kinda allowing me to watch racing each and every weekend, as well as write about it. I would also like to thank her for excusing me from home for the sole purpose of working on my redneck at the Daytona 500, the Las Vegas and Phoenix races, as well as the fall trek to Talladega.

What are you thankful for this year?

TIL NEXT TIME, I AM STILL WORKING IN MY REDNECK!

To all “the Said Heads” in the racing world, the lovable Boris Said has finally logged his first NASCAR victory! Said has won on many, many road race venues throughout North America, however, he has never logged a NASCAR victory prior to The Napa 200 at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal.

Over the past 10 plus years it has been Boris Said who has taken it upon himself to tutor most all of the notable NASCAR drivers in “road racing 101″. Most all the current Sprint Cup and Nationwide drivers have been students of Boris Said, at one time or another, and have heaped praises upon Said for helping them to acquire some additional road racing skills.

Nevertheless, Boris has struggled over the years to try to compete at the Sprint Cup and Nationwide level due to sponsorship issues. A few times Said’s attempts to make “the big show” have been spectacular, only to be thwarted by “the weather gods”

Very late in the race, Boris Said took the lead on a green-white-checkered restart, lost the lead briefly on the final lap, regained it on the final turn and held off two other top road racers to win Sunday’s Nationwide Series race at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal. From turn #14 to the start/finish line it was a pure drag race between the Roush-Yates Ford horsepower and the Earhnardt-Childress Chevy horsepower. Said and the Roush-Yates horsepower won by .012 seconds!

Said’s .012-second margin of victory was the closest ever on a road course in the Nationwide Series, the fifth closest overall in series history and the closest since 1998 at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

It was Said’s first victory in the series, which includes 22 starts but spans parts of nine seasons. “I’ve been trying so long and this race is so tough,” Said, looking as much exhausted as happy, said. “It was good racing. It was clean racing.”

Here is the unofficial results of the Napa 200 at Montreal.

What was your view of one of the most exciting road races in recent memory?

Just remember, “Who said?”

Well this week the NASCAR teams head out to the San Francisco Bay Area. Actually, a more refined description of the area is the “Wine Country” of Napa, Sonoma, and Mendecino valleys. This is the first of the two road courses that the drivers will converge on in the 2009 race season.

This is also the first opportunity for the “hired guns/road race ringers” to jump into these big race cars and try to provide their prospective car owners with a road race victory. The two most prevalent road racers ringers are, Canadian Ron Fellows and “Who Said? Boris Said”.

There are a handful for NASCAR regulars that are good road racers, in their own right. Tony Stewart, Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson, and Mark Martin can be extremely good at a road race venue . Don’t overlook JPM, Juan Pablo Montoya. JPM is a former Indy 500 winner, Formula 1 winner, and a previous winner at Infineon. The Infineon victory is JPM’s only Cup level victory so far in his career.

A highlight of the NASCAR Now program yesterday, Ricky Craven asked Boris how he was gonna approach the race at Infineon Raceway this weekend? Boris’ reply was quite Boris Said!! He replied that he was going to” drive like a Doberman with a hangrenade in his mouth”!!

Who is your choice at Infineon Raceway this weekend?

Memo #1 to me: Don’t try to feed Boris Said!

Memo #2 to me: Find out where I can get a SAIDHEAD wig.

UNTIL NEXT TIME, I AM STILL WORKING ON MY REDNECK!
