Notes:

Johnny Sauter will run GMS chassis No. 129 at Talladega Superspeedway. This chassis was raced to a win in the 2018 season opener at Daytona. Additionally, Sauter ran this Chevrolet at Talladega in 2017 where he won the first two stages before a late race incident relegated the No. 21 to a 12th-place finish.

– As part of GMS Racing’s tribute to breast cancer awareness, Sauter’s ISM Connect Chevrolet will carry the name of his mother-in-law, Terry Owen, a breast cancer survivor. The pink paint scheme featured on the No. 21 will additionally carry the names of GMS employees’ friends and family who have been directly affected by breast cancer.

– Following a second-place finish at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Sauter leads the driver point standings by 17 points. He is 40 points above the cut off line heading into the final race of the Round of 8.

Quotes:

“Compared to Daytona, Talladega is a lot wider so it gives people more options. You can be riding along double-file thinking you’re okay and somebody goes up top to start a third groove and next thing you know you’re getting funneled back even further. Honestly, I think when a track is wider like that and you’re going that fast drivers kind of get complacent, and that’s when the accidents happen. They just make a mistake and then it’s catastrophic for everybody.”

“The GMS trucks have been so fast so I feel like we’re in a little better position to control our destiny. Hopefully, we qualify well and we can stay up front. We won both stages there last year and came up a little short at the end, but Talladega is a place that anything can happen at anytime. If you’re smart you can kind of help yourself a little bit, but I’d say there’s still a 50/50 shot you’re going to come out of there tore up and that’s why those regular season championship bonus points are really nice to have.”

TIL NEXT TIME, I AM STILL WORKING ON MY REDNECK!
